| General Overview | Quick, intellectually sharp, good sense of humor and tends to get along with most people. She is extremely compassionate toward her patients and each one feels like they are someone special. Her bedside manner is equally respectful, honest and supportive. While she is outgoing in public, she is actually an introvert and requires a good amount of time alone to recharge her energy. | |
| Strengths & Weaknesses | STRENGTHS: She is courageous and focused, a team player and will go to bat for the underdog. She's meticulous and attentive to detail. She has an eidetic memory. Her ability to make decisions under pressure is outstanding. WEAKNESSES: Though outwardly confident, Riah bears scars of being raised in a home where her mother was actively dealing with mental health issues. Internally, Riah finds herself under her own pressure to perform perfectly every time, for everyone. In the cases where that is not possible to save everyone, she suffers deep disappointment in herself and is known to drop into a disturbing depression. She realizes this is an issue and is a regular visitor to the Counselor to deal with issues of past conditioning and trauma primarily related to her mother’s mental illness. Riah is afraid of heights. |

| Personal History | Riah was born in the artistic community of Marfa, Texas, in 2390, five years after the Romulan super-nova crisis, and the Mars Utopia Planitia Disaster. In 2395, when she was five and her brother seven, the family picked up and moved to Athina on Alpha Centauri avoiding the catastrophe on Earth. Both her parents were physicians. Her father is a Starfleet veteran, retired neurosurgeon and volunteers on the medical ship, USS Mercy’s Heart, based at Alpha Centauri. Soon after moving to Alpha Centauri, Riah’s mother quit practicing medicine to become a very successful, full-time artist. Her parents were divorced when Riah was 9 and she lived with her mother in Alcinoe, a thriving artisan community. Her brother, Roe, went with his father aboard the medical ship USS Archimedes. He later attended medical school as well and is stationed as CMO on the USS Calliope. Her mother was diagnosed as suffering from bipolar disorder (manic depression) while in medical school. She refused treatment, saying it would destroy her creativity. For most of Riah’s young life, her mother swung between wildly creative episodes and dark depression. When someone finally realized Riah had an eidetic memory, she attended a private school where her gift was nurtured. She excelled her entire educational career. She went to medical school in Athina, graduated with a specialty in xeno-biology, and immediately joined Starfleet in hopes of intergalactic travel and working with the wonders of xeno-medicine. She has been supported and recognized as an exceptional physician, a writer and a gifted artist in her own right. |
