Caution: Spoilers ahead if you have not watched Star Trek Picard.
Major Historical Events (Late 24th – Early 25th Century)
2385 – Mars Attack / Utopia Planitia Disaster
Synth workers on Mars were hacked and went rogue, destroying Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards and much of the Martian surface.Result:
91,000+ deaths. Mars still burns into the 25th century.
Led to a ban on synthetic lifeforms, including androids (like Data-type).
2385–2387 – Romulan Supernova Crisis
The Romulan sun went supernova, destroying Romulus and Remus, killing billions.
The Romulan Star Empire fractured into factions: Romulan Free State, Tal Shiar remnants, Fenris Rangers, and others.
Starfleet attempted to mount a rescue, but efforts were sabotaged (tied to the synth attack). The Romulans blame the Federation for not doing enough.
2399 – Season 1 of Picard
Discovery of synthetic life on Coppelius. Ban on synths is lifted.
Data's consciousness is finally laid to rest.
Federation begins to slowly accept synths again, cautiously.
2401 – Season 2 of Picard
Timeline disrupted by Q, but this is mostly reset by the end.
Borg Queen (Jurati) becomes a new kind of Borg, peaceful and helpful, requesting Federation membership.
The Borg Collective (classic version) is still out there, but weakened or in hiding.
2401 – Season 3 of Picard
Changelings (Founders), angry over how Starfleet treated them after the Dominion War, infiltrate Starfleet.
A rogue faction of Changelings teams up with remnants of the Borg Collective.
Using genetic material from Picard’s son Jack Crusher, they hack Starfleet ships and almost destroy Earth during Frontier Day.
Starfleet assembles every ship with fleet sync, which is then hijacked by the Borg.
Space Battle of Earth:
Starfleet is nearly decimated before Seven of Nine, the Titan crew, and the Enterprise-G stop them.
The entire fleet is almost lost, and the Federation’s dependence on networked control systems is shown to be dangerously flawed.
By 2425 – Current State of Affairs
Major Powers
Federation: Rebuilding trust and internal security after Frontier Day. Cautious, possibly fragmented. More decentralized.
Romulan factions: Romulan Free State, refugees, and local warlords. Still fragmented, possibly stabilizing.
Klingon Empire: Still powerful. More isolationist but always a wildcard.
Cardassians: Quiet, rebuilding post-Dominion War.
Ferengi Alliance: Thriving economically.
Borg Collective: Severely weakened. The Jurati Borg faction is friendly, not assimilating.
Dominion: No major resurgence, but rogue changeling elements are still at large.
Planets Lost or Devastated
Romulus and Remus – Destroyed by supernova.
Mars – Still burning, shipyard destroyed, uninhabitable.
Frontier Day casualties – Massive losses, many Starfleet ships destroyed or damaged.
Enemies of Starfleet
Rogue Changelings – Scattered, but still a threat.
Traditional Borg – Likely hiding or regrouping.
Romulan extremist factions – Potential terrorists, pirates.
New threats – Unknown anomalies, isolated systems, AI remnants, or enemies born of the post-Borg tech resurgence.
Starfleet Status (2425)
Severely damaged fleet, undergoing doctrine overhaul.
No more fleet sync—ships are back to independent operation.
Strong focus on rebuilding trust, exploration, and security.
Starfleet is likely recruiting heavily and promoting innovation in defense, cyberwarfare, and diplomacy.
