Sandra sat on her bunk in the back of the runabout, legs crossed, eyes closed, finishing her daily meditation. The exercise helped her keep her emotions in check. She had learned long ago that it was imperative to continue this and not skip it. Even though she was only one quarter Vulcan, her father was a full Betazoid, and without proper control, her emotions could get away from her. Not to mention that her Vulcan training had taught her proper shielding, and without it, it was very easy to get overwhelmed with the thoughts and feelings of those around her. Slowly she opened her eyes and allowed them to adjust to the light levels before she checked her chrono.
"Commander, we are on final approach to SB 369. You may want to come up front."
Sandra's thoughts were interrupted by her comm badge, she tapped it once, "On my way Lieutenant." She closed the comm line and made her way forward, moments later taking a seat next to the pilot. The half-finished mushroom that was SB 369 was still an impressive sight, she mused as the runabout slipped through the open bay doors. A faint smile appeared on her features when she spotted the Sovereign class ship that was to be her new home, and new assignment.
A few minutes later, the runabout was docked, and Sandra took her duffel from her bunk. She nodded in greeting to the pilot and made her way onto the station. She took a deep breath, to recompose her control, and suppress the nervousness she felt. After barely a year as CEO on the USS Valiant, an Intrepid class ship, she had been promoted not only to LtCmdr, but also as CEO of a Sovereign class ship. If anything, it was indicative of the state Starfleet was in, even this long after the events of the Frontier Day attack by the Borg. Especially, the engineering division had been extremely busy, rebuilding the fleet, moving away from the centralized network that had almost caused the complete destruction of Starfleet and assimilation of Earth.
When she got to the large viewing windows in the bulkhead beyond which the ship was visible, she placed her duffel on the floor and took in the sight of the ship. She ship was huge compared to the USS Valiant, she had been on before, and seeing the size difference highlighted change in responsibilities, the Valiant had had 150 crew, this one had nearly that many officers alone, not to speak of the total number of crew 900….
A soft meow brought Sandra out of her revery, she looked down to her duffel on the floor, and a small black and white kitten was making itself comfortable on it, playing with the tag of the zip. Sandra looked around and did not see an adult cat looking for the kitten, and she softly petted it, resulting in loud purrs coming from the small feline. "For now, I will take you with me, little one," Sandra said softly to the kitten, "I'll see if I can find either your mother, or your owner, and if unsuccessful, you may live in my quarters."
Sandra took the kitten with one hand and slung the duffel over her shoulder with the other, the feline meowed softly and then settled on her arm. Together, they made their way to the docking check point where she showed her credentials to the security officers. It did not take long before she was on board, and on her way to her quarters on deck 6.

For the third time, Sandra picked up the small feline and took it out of her duffel and placed her back on the floor. "I know it is interesting in there, but I am trying to unpack, little one." She had not brought a lot of items, just some off-duty clothes and a few mementoes. "Your food, and litter box are over there," she pointed to the corner. The two were far enough apart since she knew felines did not want to eat close to the place where they relieved themselves. "I've replicated a bed for you. I need to go soon. When I return, I will make sure you have some toys to play with."
Sandra looked around her new quarters, they were appeared almost double in size compared to the ones she had had on the Valiant. She walked over to the desk and picked up the PADD, it had the information on it that she had been studying on the way here. Lay out, Engineering crew members, latest updates on the decentralized systems, and much more. It was time to get to work, report in with the Captain, sickbay, and check out main engineering and her office there.
