Mission:
Fractured Accord
Timeline: Couple hours before the parties
=/.= Starboard Crew Lounge – USS Arawyn
At this very moment Lieutenant Alexander Powell felt a little overwhelmed with the sheer number of simultaneous activities that would be going on over the next couple of hours. It was christening day—a monumental occasion for any ship and the entirety of her crew, and he had been assigned the honor of coordinating the various parties for the thousands of members of Arawyn’s crew spanning the next 24 hours (give or take).
First and foremost had been organizing the main party in Ten Forward: a formal affair which, overall, was planned to stretch on for 8 hours. This event would include dinner, speeches, champagne toasts, open bar, and dancing to a live band into the wee hours of the morning.
Chief Merrick had been instrumental in coordinating the schedules of Epsilon Fleet’s Admiralty, a number of guests, and the Arawyn’s leadership team. His experience working with those groups before provided a wealth of information regarding their dining preferences and other light touches that had the potential to make the evening a special one. They’d even timed speeches and ‘spontaneous’ festive events between entertainment acts to keep the ever-shifting crowd of people engaged.
The Crew Mess on Deck 9 was also being decorated, though up there officers on duty would be able to review highlights of the evening with a similar spread of foods to choose from as the main party in a more relaxed setting. The area would be made available to civilians and visitors looking for a quieter area to gaze out at the stars, or enjoy a quiet conversation.
His current location, Starboard Crew Lounge located near the crew quarters on the primary hull, was the off-duty, let-your-hair-down, atmosphere that Alex had no intention of interfering in. The place always had a casual vibe with eclectic music playing at conversational volumes. Manned by a single crewman who’s primary job was to maintain cleanliness of the plain tables and chairs spread throughout the room, and run maintenance checks on the bank of 5 replicators at one end, there wasn’t much *to* decorate in the sparsely occupied room.
Checking a box on the list displayed on his PADD, Alex nodded to himself as he glanced around one last time and returned to the corridor.
=/.= Bridge – USS Arawyn
He was glad to hear that the person minding the Bridge in his absence hadn’t turned off his smooth jazz music, and nodded to them with a smile as he resumed his seat at Ops, taking a few minutes to reivew everything that had gone on while he’d been out preparing for the night’s festivities. Th COMM channels were packed with requests and inquiries, and he felt as if he might drown in status reports, and the minor, last-minute emergencies that some of them inevitably hid.
“Lieutenant Beaverhausen,” he called to the officer at Mission Ops. Though he’d recently been promoted to Deputy Head and Field Operations Specialist, he still spent most of his time on the Bridge for the time being. Namely, because they were still in spacedock. “Let’s head downstairs and divvy up some of this paperwork…” he began as he rose from the seat he’d only just sat in.
As he began heading back toward the turbolift he found himself listing off more people to check in with, departments to assess the readiness off, and wondered about distribution of Operations officers to serve as ushers and guides to those visiting their ship for the first, if only, time.
Yes, with just a couple hours left there was still much for him to do.
