Suzanna entered the bridge after she had been released by sickbay. The various reports had started coming in, and she was keeping up with them on her PADD. She was most interested in the debriefing and conclusions from Sorvak. Communication in harmonics, and now there was the request to align the shields to the harmonic wave form, to in phase coherence with the rift. Potential other life-forms in the rift that communicate with harmonics. Then the hungry, lonely young one, as the Eirians had referred to the life form.
Then there were the questions she had about their propulsion systems. There was not much detail in Ensign Collingway’s report so far, besides that a power boost that had restarted the system, and that it appeared to be some kind of EMP equivalent that disabled or damaged them. Yet her own scans and what she had seen on the bridged and learned while connected with it, indicated something quite different than regular warp engines. Not to mention that the corridors in the ship could be telepathically manipulated, it was almost like a living ship. Yet she also remembered seeing images of a gravitational core, being controlled from the bridge.
“Captain,” She nodded in greeting to Corbin as she made her way to the XO chair. “What is the status of the rift?”
“Commander,” Corbin greeted in return, “Ensign Zodeill is maintaining passive tracking of the life form. Only keeping it within range with verteron particles when needed so it doesn’t endanger anyone. The rift appears stable for now.”
“Do we know if this is the same rift, that reopened, or if it is a different one? What do our sensors say?” Suzanna asked.
“Our sensors have not been able to penetrate the event horizon.” Corbin replied.
“Do we want to risk sending in a probe, that can give us telemetry? It may affect the rift and make it unstable and affect the only way home for the Eirians.” Suzanna mused out loud. “Not to mention we have a young life form that is also trying to get home some how.”
Corbin merely nodded, in thought.
Suzanna did not envy the ethical debate and decisions the Captain would have to make sooner or later. “I recall seeing a gravitational device on the ship, Captain. I believe they used gravitational lensing in conjunction with their form of Warp drive. Bending spacetime, which the warp field in many ways does too. I am starting to believe that is what they also used to change the interior of their ship to contain the life form.” She paused a moment, “Engineering and science have recommended that we align our shields to the harmonic wave form that has been detected as forms of communications so that we can be phase aligned with the rift. It may help improve sensor input.”
Corbin considered it a moment, then nodded. “Let’s do that.” She tapped her comm badge, “Engineering, align the shields to the harmonic wave, and I want the senior officers on the bridge when completed. We need information and options.”
It didn’t take long for Sorvak, Amberlyn and Evans to arrive on the bridge.
“Engineering to Bridge, Shield harmonic aligned, Captain.”
“Understood, stand by. Bridge out.” Corbin looked to the assembled officers, “Full sensor sweeps, let’s see if we can get closer more information out of the rift.” She paused a moment, then tapped her comm badge, “Corbin to Zodeill, adjust the shuttles shield harmonics to what engineering is about to send you, and use your sensors while you are keeping the life form occupied. Do not take any risks... we need information, Ensign. Corbin out.”
